Libya Iron & Steel Company Adopts 21st Century Technology for Production Facility in Misurata

CSE Servelec has recently announced that they have been awarded a large contract by the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) to replace the ageing control system in their Steel Melting Shop with state of the art technology.

Valued at $840K, the project will see CSE Servelec replace the existing BBC Procontic PLC's which were originally installed in the 1980's during the construction of LISCO's iron and steel complex in Libya. 

LISCO is one of the largest manufacturing companies in Libya with a capacity to produce over 1.3 million tons of liquid steel per year.   

The complex, situated near Misurata, consists of three Direct Reduction Plant, two Steel Melting Shops, a Three Line Bar and Rod Mill, a Light and Medium Section Mill, a Hot Strip Mill and Cold Strip Mill with Galvanizing Line and Coating Line, Captive Port, Power and Desalination Plant, Lime Stone and Dolomite Quarry, a Training Centre and other auxiliary facilities, such as workshops, air separation plants, to name but a few.

The project will see CSE Servelec replace the now obsolete Steel Melting Shop -2 PLCs with the latest Siemens S7/400 controllers.  Modernisation of the plant includes for replacement of the PLCs on the Electric Arc Furnaces Material Handling, Fume Extraction System and MISC1 & 2 Auxiliary Facilities.

As part of the project new HMIs, using Citect software and industrial PCs, will be supplied and installed to provide modern, user friendly plant interfaces. 

From start to finish the project is expected to take just over a year to fully implement.
